Ambassador Guilfoyle allegations: what is on the official record

What official actions have been taken on the allegations against U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle?

The sources we said we would check passed our verification rules (version 2.1); this does not claim that every possible record was found. Every displayed archive match opens a dated record.

The public question, separated from the record.

Why people are asking

NBC News reported that Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned as Ambassador to Greece on October 13 after the White House asked her to, and that she denied the allegations. The Wall Street Journal had reported that she let an Aktor Group lobbyist into official meetings and asked donor Eric Deters to cover a $100,000 debt. NBC reported that the State Department inspector general is investigating. A House Oversight Democrats letter of October 14 refers to her announced resignation, and on October 15 the U.S. Embassy in Athens listed a chargé d’affaires as its head.

What we checked and what we found

Verified Oct 19, 2026 · 08:48 UTC

Used PBS, NBC and AP-syndicated reports as leads only. Earlier runs read the Senate roll call record and S. Res. 377, both House Foreign Affairs Democrats releases, the House Oversight Democrats’ October 8 and October 14 letters and releases, Senator Shaheen’s October 6 release, Rubio’s October 8 Athens transcript and the U.S. Embassy Athens pages naming a chargé d’affaires. On October 19 the review reopened those records and rechecked the White House feeds (newest October 17; no Guilfoyle item, no nominations since September 28), both committee Democrats’ release lists (unchanged), the stateoig.gov reports page and a state.gov search (no item), the embassy home page (Josh Huck still listed) and a Google search of .gov sites for the past week, which found only member statements such as Senator Jack Reed’s of October 13. It decided each of the six scopes separately.
