Who it is for

Anyone with an audience that follows politics

  • Newsletters. Add a link to Power & Politics where you point readers to sources.
  • Creators. Podcasters and video makers can share a link in show notes and descriptions.
  • Teachers. Civics and government classes can point students to the official records behind the news.
  • Civic groups. Leagues, libraries and community organizations that help people follow what government does.
  • Bloggers. Writers who cite votes, bills and court orders can link to where we show them.

Candidates, campaigns, political parties and political committees cannot join. Power & Politics stays independent and nonpartisan.

How it works

Four steps from application to payout

  1. Apply. Fill in the form below. We review each application and contact you at the email you give.
  2. Get your link. Approved partners sign in with a link we email them and find their personal referral link.
  3. Share it. Readers who follow your link and subscribe within 60 days are credited to you.
  4. Get paid. Commissions are held for 30 days, then paid once your balance reaches $50.
The rules

What partners agree to

The full list is in the partner terms.

  • Say you are a partner. Tell your audience clearly, near the link, that you earn a commission.
  • No political partners. Candidates, campaigns, parties and political committees cannot join, and partners may not imply that Power & Politics backs any candidate.
  • No bidding on our name. Do not buy ads on search terms that include Power & Politics or VoteFiles.
  • No spam. Send links only to people who expect to hear from you.
  • No misleading claims. Describe our coverage as it is. Do not say we offer something we do not.
  • No self-referrals. Payments you make for yourself earn no commission.
Before you apply

Payments to partners start when our payment system opens

Our paid plans and payment system are not open yet. Commissions are recorded only when a real payment is made, so none can be earned until payments open. We will pay by PayPal or Wise once the payment system is connected.

Questions

Common questions

Does it cost anything to join?

No. Joining is free.

Who decides whether I am approved?

We review every application by hand and may decline it. We contact you at the email you give.

How is a reader credited to me?

When someone opens your link, we save a small cookie in their browser for 60 days. If they subscribe in that time, the sale goes to the last partner link they used.

When and how do I get paid?

Each commission is held for 30 days. Once your approved balance reaches $50, we pay it by PayPal or Wise, on a monthly schedule, after our payment system is connected.

What if a reader asks for a refund?

The commission on that payment is reversed. If it was already paid, the amount comes off your next payout.

Do I have to tell my audience I earn a commission?

Yes. Say so clearly, near the link, before anyone clicks. The Federal Trade Commission in the United States and the Competition Bureau in Canada both expect it.

Can I use paid ads?

You may not bid on search terms that include our name. Any other advertising must follow the rules on this page and in the partner terms.

Can a campaign or political group join?

No. Candidates, campaigns, parties and political committees cannot be partners, and you cannot apply on behalf of one.
