The list holds the cases each volume reports with an opinion of the Court. Memorandum decisions and orders printed at the back of a volume are not listed. See what is and is not in the list. For the cases now pending, see the Supreme Court page.
01 Find a case
Every word you type must appear in the case name or citation. Add a year (1954) or a range (1950-1960) to narrow it. Slip opinions can also be found by docket number.
Or look at the newest cases, browse by decade, year or volume, or see what the Court decided on this day.
02 Cases per year
- Cases listed
A year shows the cases decided in it, not the term. The first decades are small because the Court reported few cases. Volumes 2 to 4 also hold cases from other courts of the time, and those are listed with the court named. After volume 586 the figures come from the Court's own opinion lists, which count differently from the bound volumes.

05 Who sat on the Court in 2026
9 justices had service dates that include some part of 2026. The Court's term runs from October to the following summer, so a year can show more than nine when a seat changed hands.

06 Where this comes from, and what is not in it
- Volumes 2 to 586 (1781 to 2019): GovInfo, United States Reports ↗, the Government Publishing Office's copy of the volumes the Court publishes. Each volume's metadata record lists its cases with the name, citation, decision date and a link to the case's own PDF. GovInfo's description of the collection ↗.
- After that: the Court's own slip opinion lists ↗, one page per term, with docket number, date and the justice who wrote. A case already in a GovInfo volume is not listed twice.
- Disposition, vote and the other details: where a GovInfo record carries them (such as how the Court disposed of the case or its vote count) they are shown as the record gives them. They are not on the Court's own lists and are not added by this site.
- Not in the list: memorandum decisions and orders printed at the back of a volume, and the Pennsylvania cases in volumes 1 to 4, which GovInfo holds only inside the full volume. Slip opinion lists leave out cases the Court decided without a written opinion.
- Checked against the volumes: each volume's cases were compared with the table of cases printed in the volume itself. 148 volumes match exactly; 353 differ in some page numbers (listed on each volume's page); 84 could not be checked because the table could not be read.
- How the files were made: built 2026-11-02 by
pipeline/import_archive_scotus.php. Files SHA-256 f1854c24b02e09e0…. Each case has a permanent citation ID.
