Pilot for publishers · Version 1.1

Make the record
travel.

One lightweight card. One dated fact. One cited supporting source. When the Vote File is corrected or updated, the card on your page updates automatically.

Live example

The card stays attached to the evidence.

You supply only the code for a Vote Files record. The status, wording, date, source, and link are looked up again from the public record each time the card loads.

  • No advertising tools and no tracking of visitors
  • No wording of facts supplied by the publisher
  • A clear message, never a blank, when a record cannot be verified
  • Corrections appear within five minutes
Two lines to add

Works with ordinary publishing tools.

Put the first line where you want the card to appear, then add the second line once on the page. Load the script directly from Vote Files; do not copy or change it.

<div data-votefiles-embed data-vf-src="https://votefiles.com/embed.php?type=eo&k=14388"></div>
<script async src="https://votefiles.com/js/embed.js?v=1.1"></script>

For your web developer: if your site restricts which other sites it may load content from (a Content Security Policy), allow https://votefiles.com for both scripts (script-src) and framed content (frame-src). Your page must use a secure (HTTPS) address.

01

Use a supported file

The pilot supports bills, recorded votes, court cases, executive orders, reviewed topics, and dated Morning Record editions.

02

Keep attribution intact

The Vote Files name, the link to the official source, the record date, and the link to the full file must always stay on the card.

03

Let corrections propagate

Do not take screenshots of the card or rewrite it. Each time the page loads, the card looks up its wording again from the official source, and any saved copy expires within five minutes.

How to choose a record

You choose the record, not the wording.

Use exactly one of the formats below. Extra or repeated details, headlines you write yourself, badly formed dates, and records without dated evidence all show a card saying the record is unavailable, and that card is never saved.

Bill?type=bill&c=119&b=hr&n=12
Recorded vote?type=vote&c=119&ch=House&r=239
Court case?type=case&id=44
Executive order?type=eo&k=14388
Reviewed topic?type=topic&t=trade
Newly added topic?type=topic&t=discover&q=canada%20tariff
Morning edition?type=morning&date=2026-08-26
Verified voting deadlines?type=deadlines&state=PA

Change only the values after the equals signs in data-vf-src. Bill types are hr, hjres, hconres, hres, s, sjres, sconres, or sres. Keep the Vote Files address, the /embed.php page, the version number, the credit line, the source link, and the full-file link as they are. A deadline card takes a two-letter state code in capital letters and shows only dates that were re-verified within the past seven days; the deadline data and news-reader feed use the same rule.

Safety and privacy

The card cannot read your page.

The card sits in a sealed frame. It does not tell Vote Files which page it is on, does not set a Vote Files account cookie, has no form, and cannot run code on your page. Your page stays completely separate from Vote Files.
